Treatment of pyruvate ketal-derived diazoacetoacetates or vinyldiazoketones with rhodium(II) complexes at elevated temperatures results in an Unusual skeletal rearrangement to afford eight-membered ring lactones. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
