Prayer and Transcendence: Reflections in the Light of Viktor Frankl's Thought

The present study starts from the anthropological vision of the founder of Logotherapy and Existential Analysis Viktor Emil Frankl (1905 -1997). Although its foundations were solidified before the Second World War, it was in the context of Nazi concentration camps and forced labor as a common prisoner that the author in focus ex-perienced his assumptions, when he reported for the first time the phenomenon of prayer. In this vein, the objective of this article was to understand Viktor Frankl's vision about the relationship between prayer and transcendence in the experience of homo religiosus. To reach its scope, it was initially treated about the vision of religious man for the author in question, then, who is God for the religious man and finally it approached prayer as a link between the religious man and the supra-Being. Through this explanation, it was noticed that one of the manifestations common to all religions is the practice of prayer, experienced both by mystics and by the common religious man. Finally, it is concluded that the religious or spiritual man would be the one who would have an unconditional faith in a Suprameaning. Thus, prayer would allow a reconnection by addressing the supra-Being, often conceived as a personal God.
