Correlation between abdominal obesity (AO) with other cardiovascular risk factors (CRF) in patients over 65 years with ischaemic stroke (IS)

摘要：

In order to investigate whether AO is an independent risk factor (RF) for IS in elderly patients > 65 yrs and its relation and co-existance with other CRF we studied 141 pts (79m, 62f) with IS in our Dept. Based on sex and age (65-74 and > 75 yrs) patients were divided into 4 groups. Body Mass Index (BMI) and Waist to Hip ratio (W/H) were determined. AO was defined as BMI > 25 and W/H > 0,85 in m and > 24 and > 0,81 in f. AO is the second more frequent RF for IS in pts> 65yrs, either as single CRF or when it coexists with others. The risk for IS increases when > 1 CRF coexists. AO and HPT are the more frequent coexisting CRF, when both of them are present the risk for IS is three times greater.
