Influence of Si addition and relaxation on the crystallization of Zr-Al-Ni-Cu based amorphous alloys

Amorphous Zr60Al8Ni12.5Cu17Si2.5 and Zr60Al8Ni10Cu17Si5 ribbons were produced by melt spinning. From constant-rate DSC analysis, an increase of Tg and, in turn, a decrease of ΔTx were observed for ribbons after a pre-relaxation treatment at temperatures below the glass transition temperature. Isothermal analysis also revealed a shorter incubation time τ for the relaxed samples. Furthermore, longer τ values and higher activation energies were observed for a higher Si content.
