Phenolic Content, Lipid Peroxidation Inhibition and Antioxidant Potential of Leaf Essential Oil of Ginkgo biloba in Various Scavenging Models

摘要
Current study was aimed to evaluate antioxidant and lipid peroxidation inhibition efficacy of Ginkgo biloba leaf essential oil (GBEO) in different radical scavenging models along with total phenolic content. The GBEO exhibited potent antioxidant effect on the inhibition of DPPH, NO, O2-, and OH- radicals by 75.47, 72.42, 72.24 and 73.67%, whereas IC50 values of GBEO were found to be 222.08, 247.23, 132.85, and 305.06 mu g/ml, respectively. In addition, the GBEO evoked significant reducing power efficacy and profound inhibitory effect on lipid-peroxidation induced by ferric ions in a dose-dependent manner. Moreover, the GBEO yielded 8.60 +/- 0.01 mg/g GAE phenolic contents, confirming its role as a natural antioxidant.
