Multiple pulse laser induced damage in Mercury Cadmium Telluride and Cadmium Telluride with 1.06μm laser in picosecond regime

摘要
Multiple pulse damage in mirror polished samples of Mercury Cadmium Telluride & Cadrnium Telluride at damage threshold has been studied using a 1.06 mum Nd: YAG laser of 35ps pulse duration. Damage morphology observed under Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) is same for both HgCdTe & CdTe. It shows formation of a typical forest of micro-columnar structures which are aligned along the laser beam direction. All these micro-columns have 2-3 mum diameter round tip having a bright or white periphery. Formation of these micro-columns has been explained by hydro dynamical sputtering as proposed by Kelly and coworkers.
