Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips were placed on top and bottom walls of steel tubes. Ten tubes with different configurations of CFRP reinforcement were tested in simplespan bending. The objective of the study is to investigate potential benefits of post-strengthening of steel structures with CFRP. The testing program evaluated improvements in member strength and stiffness resulting from application of CFRP. The testing revealed the failure modes for CFRP strips bonded to steel and, in particular, the differences in behavior of CFRP strips loaded in compression compared to those loaded in tension. The study showed that there is potential benefit to the use of CFRP for post strengthening of steel members,
