A 2D Vlasov code for the electron dynamics in a Penning-Malmberg trap

摘要
A two-dimensional numerical code for the kinetic description of the electron dynamics in a Penning-Malmberg trap has been developed. The code solves the Vlasov equation for the electron distribution function in the guiding center approximation, coupled to the Poisson equation for the electrostatic potential. In the present version of the code, the drift velocity is given by the E x B-drift. The present code constitutes the first step of a numerical project for the solution of the gyrokinetic Vlasov-Poisson system of equations in a 3D cylindrical geometry.
