摘要:
This study concentrates on finding out the major strengths and problems of genre writing created by Thai adolescent learners. Information Reports is considered to be among the prototypical genres in educational settings. This genre would be the writing style Thai students would be able to do for reflecting their language ability including problems they have. Genre is the core approach assisting to analyze the learners' writing to determine genre writing strengths and problems. Referring to Halliday 191, this study also observes the ability of using nominal group based on Systematic Functional Grammar found in the genre writing. The findings illustrate that many Thai high school learners were able to construct the text at the level of the basic linguistic features of the genres. They are able to express their ideas, imagination and provide a lot of interesting information. However, they need to develop the nominal groups and adverb group for elaboration and expansion. These problems seem to be able to reflect what learners may not have chances to learn and practice in the classroom or lack of clear understanding.
