Meniscal repair using the outside-to-inside technique

The outside-to-inside technique of meniscal repair was developed to decrease the risk of injury to the posterior neurovascular structures. This technique is especially useful for tears in the anterior and middle one third of the meniscus, as well as for suture placement during meniscal allograft insertion. This article discusses meniscus structure and function, the basic science of meniscal repair, the outside-to-inside technique and its clinical results, and the use of fibrin clot to augment meniscal repairs.
