摘要
The production of metakaolin, as a cement replacement material complying with the European and Egyptian standard specifications is being processed in Egypt. Kaolin mineral quarried from different locations was characterized chemically, mineralogically and their thermal behavior was determined. The mineral with best characteristics was chosen for the industrial production of metakaolin. The preliminary investigations performed on a laboratory scale included the activation of the crushed kaolin at different temperatures and for several durations. The mineral was then fired in an industrial rotary kiln for 1 hour at 700 degrees C. The pozzolanic reactivity of the activated mineral was determined. The effect of replacing Portland cement by metakaolin of two different finenesses on the properties of concrete is studied.
