摘要
Is literary history possible? Can a historian legitimately use the techniques of fiction? Can criticism be combined with history? Despite these and other difficulties, there are many histories of medieval Spanish literature, mine among them. My book mixes chronological with generic structure, but if I rewrite it the structure will be fundamentally chronological.
