摘要
The several participants of the soybean production chain continuously demand cultivars that guarantee sustainability and competitiveness to their activities. New cultivars bring opportunity for reducing the environment impact of soybean cropping and production costs while increasing crop yield, stability and quality. The contribution of the soybean genetic breeding programs to the development of Brazilian agribusiness has been very significant as it has developed higher yielding, higher quality and better adapted cultivars for the various ecological regions and cultivation systems. Stability of production is sought through the introduction of resistance or tolerance to disease and pests and through the introduction of special agronomic traits such as tolerance to acid soils. Other objectives are the development of cultivars with high physiological seed quality in tropical regions and with special traits for human consumption or industrial processing. The programs develop cultivars for all Brazilian regions, including the States of RS, SC, PR, SP, MS, MG, MT, GO, RO, BA, TO, MA, PI, PA, RR, AL and the DF. They are either isolated or multi-institutional programs carried out in partnership among public and private companies.
