A novel low voltage low power oscillator as a capacitive sensor interface for portable applications

A novel CMOS oscillator has been developed to be used in integrated capacitive sensor interfaces. The proposed topology has been designed in order to operate at a reduced supply voltage (the minimum being 1.2 V) with low power consumption. A 1.4-V design with an overall power consumption of only 23 mu W is presented. A five decades capacitive range (10 fF-100 pF), to which corresponds a frequency span of about 300 Hz-3 MHz, has been considered. The circuit shows low noise, low sensitivity to supply voltage variations and good output linearity. These characteristics have been verified to be fully satisfactory if compared to corresponding performance of two other typical solutions presented in literature. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science S.A.
