In expressing a 'Point of View' we are asked to have an 'eye to the future,' and predictions and hypotheses are encouraged. Although speculative, our hypotheses are based on real experimental data as well as computer modeling, but nevertheless remain to be tested. Given the disappointing results of current antiarrhythmic drugs in the prevention of sudden arrhythmic death due to abnormal conduction in patients with ischemic heart disease, our point of view that drugs targeted to remodeled gap junctions would be clinically effective and safe antiarrhythmic agents is an hypothesis worth testing.
