Phase formation during solidification of AISI 304 austenitic stainless steel

摘要
Following casting of AISI 304 strip, both cellular and skeletal ferrite were observed within individual austenite grains. It is proposed that solidification commences with primary austenite, gamma(p), to produce cellular ferrite and further solidification results in the formation of ferrite but its subsequent epitaxial transformation to austenite at the gamma(p), interface produces skeletal ferrite in addition to cellular ferrite.
