摘要
Knowledge of the sound fields for 70degrees refracted shear waves and their interaction with defects is important in optimizing ultrasonic rail inspection. In this work, we studied the sound fields for 70degrees refracted shear waves in four rail specimens having Side-Drilled Holes (SDH) and Electrical Discharge Machined (EDM) notches. The results show that the detection of the artificial defects (SDH and EDM notches) depended on the geometry of the railhead, the lateral positions of the transducers, the size of the SDH, and the orientation and size of the EDM notches.
