Water-based sodium borosilicate sols and their gelation-characterisation by viscosimetry, UV/VIS- and infrared spectroscopy

摘要
Sodium silicate solutions were mixed with boric acid in order to form sodium borosilicate gels. The gelation process was observed by dynamic oscillatory experiments. The effects of composition and temperature on the gel point are discussed. Furthermore, an indicator of the gel point for the water-based sodium borosilicate gels was found. The turbidity was investigated by UV/VIS spectroscopy and optical microscopy. Infrared spectroscopic measurements were applied to characterise the gelation process, too.
