Ammonium carbamate as corrosion inhibiting deicing material

摘要
Ammonium carbamate is a promising alternative deicing material to salt. It is not corrosive to reinforcing steel in bridges. It inhibits the corrosion of steel and aluminum, and stops the corrosion that the chloride has already started. Ammonium carbamate has a lower eutectic freezing temperature in solution than salt. It produces only minor freeze-thaw damage to concrete, and may also promote plant growth die to its 36% nitrogen content. A mixture of 60% Ammonium carbamate and 40% sodium chloride melts ice faster and reduces both material and environmental costs while effectively preventing the corrosion of steel. For practical applications, a method to pelletize the deicing compound of ammonium carbamate and salt has been researched.
