Properties of Yb-Si-Al-O-C-N oxycarbonitride glasses and liquid-phase sintering of SiC

摘要
The Yb-Si-Al-O-C-N oxycarbonitride glasses were prepared by dissolving Sic in the liquid phase of the Yb2O3-AlN-SiO2 system. The solubility of SIC in the liquid with (Yb2O3)(25)(AlN)(25) (SiO2)(50) composition was about 2 mol% at 1550 degrees C. The glass transition temperature, the softening temperature and the Vickers hardness of glasses increased with increasing content of SiC. Incorporation of carbon atoms in oxynitride glass is considered to promote the crystallization of glass and to improve the oxidation resistance of glass. The liquid-phase sintering of SIC was studies by using Ln(2)O(3), ALN and SiOz (Ln=rare-earth element) as sintering aids, and these additives were found to be usefull for the liquid-phase sintering of SiC.
