A new class of ultra-hard materials based on AlMgB14

摘要
Aluminum magnesium boride combined with additives were prepared by mechanical alloying and consolidated by vacuum hot pressing. It was found that the microstructure and hardness of these materials are strongly dependent on processing conditions. The best quality baseline material produced exhibited microhardness in the range of 32 to 35 GPa.
