Dielectric and Piezoelectric Properties of CuO Added (Ba0.85Ca0.15)(Ti0.9Zr0.1)O3 Ceramics with High Piezoelectric d33 Coefficient

In this study, in order to develop the composition of lead-free piezoelectric ceramics, the dielectric and piezoelectric properties of (Ba0.85Ca0.15)(Ti0.9Zr0.1)O-3 ceramics were investigated as a function of CuO addition. The X-rd diffraction patterns demonstrated that the manufactured ceramics possessed pure perovskite structure with rhombohedral symmetry. The composition ceramics added with 0.4mol% CuO achieved remarkable physical properties: density = 5.51g/cm(3), k(p) = 0.477, Q(m) = 198, E-r = 4284, To-t = 40 degrees C, T-c = 80 degrees C and d(33) = 462pC/N. The SEM images of the sample showed that a certain amount of CuO addition could improve the crystalline grain growth. The phase transition temperature orthorhombic-tetragonal (To-t) and tetragonal-cubic (T-c) were shifted downward with CuO addition. These results demonstrate that the ceramics added with 0.4mol% CuO is an attractive candidate for lead-free haptic piezoelectric actuator application.
