摘要
Patients with chronic disease and mental illness are at higher risk of depression and suicide. Many who have been diagnosed with genitourinary cancers are at higher risk of suicide, even among those who have sought out mental health services. Under-represented populations (African-American, Hispanic, elderly, disabled) suffer disproportionately from a lack of mental health services. However, not much is reported on the interplay of mental health and genitourinary cancer in these populations. This review aims to identify the relevant literature and describe a path forward to address and alleviate this disparity. Patient summary: Patients with chronic disease and mental illness are at higher risk of depression and suicide. Little is known about the complex interplay between race and mental health in patients with urologic cancers and more research is needed. (C) 2019 European Association of Urology.
