Variation from magnetic to non-magnetic states of Ce ions in the system Ce(Pd1-xNix)2Al3

CePd2Al3 is a magnetic dense-Kondo compound with T-N = 2.8 K and CeNi2Al3 is a non-magnetic heavy Fermion compound. We have carried out experiments of lattice parameters, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility and specific heat of the substituted system of Ce(Pd1-xNix)(2)Al-3. The T-N rapidly decreases with increasing x and disappears for x = 0.16. For x = 0.2-0.4, characteristic non-Fermi-liquid behaviors such as the proportionalities of C/T to -ln T, chi to - rootT and p to T-n with n similar to 0.7 are observed in a wide range of temperatures. The Kondo temperature T-K increases up to 150 K at x = 1. A continuous change from magnetic features to non-magnetic ones has been revealed. The x dependence of T-K and T-N is compared to the Doniach's diagram. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
