Abscess formation is a frequent complication following gluteal injection. Septic abscesses as well as aseptic necrosis of muscle or subcutaneous adipose tissue require surgical management. We present a case of subcutaneous necrosis following gluteal injection in which vacuum-assisted closure (V.A.C.(R) therapy) has been effectively applied in the phase of secondary wound healing following surgical drainage. V.A.C.(R) therapy offers ambulatory management with optimal hygiene and patient's comfort.
