A convenient method for the direct coupling of lithium D-lactate to 2-chlorotrityl chloride resin enabled the rapid and efficient solid phase synthesis of bacterial cell-wall precursor analogues (depsipeptides) found in vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
