摘要
The contribution is dealing with the issue of so-called knowledge neighbourhoods, especially with their types creative and scientific districts. Based on the method of research of foreign and domestic literature, the contribution reflects both the theoretical knowledge and the knowledge gained by various empirical research of seemingly different, but to some extent similar cities in terms of the characteristics of the studied issue. The paper highlights the main features of creative and science neighbourhoods, the main differences between the main drivers of concentration of companies, the distribution of creative and scientific companies in the seneighbourhoods, the specifics of collaboration and the spill-over of knowledge among employees, as well as the social aspects of these neighbourhoods - such as the availability of transport accessibility, the measure of attractiveness caused by architecturally important buildings or the high frequency of leisure and entertaining activities for employees. The aim of the article is to outline the differences between scientific and cultural districts and to compare the empirical results found across cities, countries and continents. From the literature research, significant differences concerning the location and localization of companies in individual neighbourhoods were found - in the case of creative districts there is a tendency of localization of firms in inner city centres, on the contrary, for companies in scientific districts the location is directed rather at the edges of city centres. Differences in company size, intensity of inter-company co-operation or social interaction of employees were also found. The contribution summarizes the findings on the specifics of knowledge neighbourhoods and gives impetus to the empirical research of other cities.
