Bacteriuria is a relatively common complication of pregnancy. The significance of bacteriuria in the development of symptomatic infection is well established, and the importance of bacteriuria in pregnancy has also been extensively evaluated. Nevertheless, with the advent of managed health care, optimal and most cost-effective strategies for detecting and managing bacteriuria in pregnancy remain areas of active investigation.
