Self-consistent evaluation of the characteristics of the operation modes in KSTAR tokamak

The characteristics of the long pulse, advanced tokamak operation modes in the Korean superconducting tokamak advanced research (KSTAR) tokamak were investigated by computing the self-consistent magnetohydrodynamic equilibrium and current density profiles. The current-drive powers required to modify the current density profile for long-pulse, advanced tokamak operation were calculated using the ACCOME numerical code. It was shown that the proposed KSTAR heating and current-drive systems based on multiple technologies (neutral beam, ion cyclotron, and lower hybrid system) were adequate to support long-pulse, advanced plasma configurations.
