The article presents the results of field measurements that were carried out in the Czech Republic in the year 2007 and that were focused on the work of sugar-beet harvesters. Within those measurements, harvesting speed, harvest losses, gross to net weight ratio, quality of cutting and degree of beet mechanical damage were measured. These results were then compared with similar measurements carried out in the past years in Germany and in Poland. Even though the measurements were not made in the same year and under the same conditions, harvest losses and gross to net weight ratios attained in all the three countries were similar. The quality of cutting and degree of beet mechanical damage depends strongly on the soil conditions during harvest and on the quality and evenness of the crop over. Harvesting speed, the adjustment and condition of the cutting mechanism and last, but not the least, the ability of the crew, influence the two latter mentioned indicators. The finest quality of cutting was achieved by the harvesters within the measurements in Germany, i.e. from 50 to 70% of correctly cut beets compared to 35 to 50% attained by the harvesters in the Czech Republic and in Poland.
