Oxidative debenzylation and cyclization reaction of certain 1-aryl-5-phenyl-2-S-benzyl-2-isothiobiurets: Direct synthesis of 5-arylimino-2-phenyl-3-oxo-1,2,4-thiadiazolidines

Several 5-arylimino-2-phenyl-3-oxo-1,2,4-thiadiazolidines have been prepared by oxidative debenzylation of 1-aryl-5-phenyl-2-S-benzyl-2-isothiobiurets by bromine in chloroform medium. The required 1-aryl-5-phenyl-2-S-benzyl-2-isothiobiurets were prepared by interaction of phenyl isocyante and 1-aryl-S-benzyl isothiocarbamide in dry benzene medium. The identities of these compounds have been established on the basis of usual chemical transformations and IR spectral data.
