Human rights in nutrition and nutrition in human rights

Nutrition is a key concern in many parts of the world, the role of nutrition being a human right has been much written about. It is, however, considered inadequately, if at all, in development plans and programs of action. A two-pronged approach to promote nutrition as a human right is proposed. One way is the infusion of nutrition as a human right in educational and other programs in nutrition. Another way is the inclusion of nutrition as a human right in educational and other programs on human rights. Families, universities and other training institutions have roles to play in meeting the responsibility of adequately providing for the nutritional needs of individuals and groups, by putting emphasis on nutrition as a 'right' as well as an 'input' for development.
