Notes on Neotropical Proconiini (Hemiptera, Cicadellidae, Cicadellinae), III:: redescription of the Amazonian sharpshooter Ichthyobelus youngi Kramer

Ichthyobelus youngi Kramer, 1976 was described based on a single male specimen from Southern Colombia. In this paper the previously unknown female of this species is described and new data on the male are provided. The species is newly recorded from Brazil (Amazonas State). Ichthyobelus youngi can be distinguished from the other four known species of the sharpshooter genus Ichthyobelus Melichar mainly by features of the male genitalia, like the short pygofer with a subtruncate apex and the very long, thread-like process on the apical portion of the aedeagus. Comparative notes on Ichthyobelus and its species are given. Comments on the head morphology in Ichthyobelus and other proconiine genera are added. (C) 2006 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA. Weinheim.
