Description of the 2D Gaussian beam diffraction in a free space in frame of eikonal-based complex geometric optics

摘要
Analytical expression for the 2D Gaussian beam diffraction in a free space is derived from the eikonal-based form of complex geometrical optics (CGO). This expression has been proved in this paper to be identical both to the exact solution of parabolic equation of diffraction theory and to the solution obtained earlier in frame of the ray-based CGO. The suggested derivation demonstrates once again diffractive nature of wave phenomena, described by CGO and explains why Mazzucato's (1989) numerical results, obtained in frame of eikonal-based CGO, happened to be in a good agreement with diffraction theory.
