Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures - possibilities and limits of psychological diagnostics

Psychogenic non-epileptic seizures represent the important category of pharmaco-resistant epilepsies in differential diagnostics. Although the neurological examination has the primary role, especially the video EEG, the psychological examination belongs to diagnostic standard of the diseased. Through its conclusions, it can bring much important information for the global examination of every patient leading to adequate consecutive treatment. The attention is paid to differential diagnostics of both the groups of seizures, to factors and principles of origin of psychogenic seizures and to actual trends in both psychological and neuropsychological diagnostics including their limits in form of false positive diagnostics.
