Effect of processing parameters on formation and thermoelectric properties of La0.4FeCo3Sb12 skutterudite by MA-HP method

摘要
Starting from element La, Fe, Co and Sb powders, La0.4FeCo3Sb12 filled skutterudite was prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) and subsequent hot pressing (HP), and effect of processing parameters on formation and thermoelectric properties of La0.4FeCo3Sb12 filled skutterudite was studied in this paper. Single skutterudite phase can be obtained when the hot pressing time is more than 2 In and the hot pressing temperature is higher than 650 degrees C. The Seebeck coefficient increases with the hot pressing time; and the electrical resistivity firstly increases with the hot pressing time and decreases on further prolonging the hot pressing time from 2 h to 3 h. On the other hand, the Seebeck coefficient and the electrical resistivity increase with the hot pressing temperature and the milling time. As a result, a maximum ZT value of 0.39 is achieved for the La0.4FeCo3Sb12 sample hot pressed at 700 degrees C for 3 h. (C) 2008 Published by Elsevier B.V.
