Interactions between polyanilines and platinum(IV) ions: vibrational spectroscopic studies

Polyaniline (PANI) and poly(o-toluidine) (POT) were treated with platinum(IV) chlorocomplexes present in the PtCl4 solutions in H2O. These new PANIs-platmum systems obtained were studied using IR spectroscopy in the middle IR range (MIR) and in the far IR range (FIR) as well as Raman scattering (lambda(exc) = 1064 nm). It was found that vibrational spectroscopic methods are sensitive tools in the studies of protonation of the polymers with platinum-containing anions. Protonation was stronger in the case of PANI than POT. Platinum was incorporated into the polymers in the form of chlorocomplexes since in all the cases the bands due to Pt-Cl vibrations were clearly visible in the FIR spectra of PANIs-platinum samples.
