Loss versus cutting angle in grain-oriented Fe-Si laminations

Magnetic losses have been investigated in grain-oriented laminations cut at different angles to the rolling direction (RD). It is shown that the dependence of the energy loss on the cutting angle reflects the corresponding evolution of the domain wall processes, characterized both by 180 degrees domain wall displacements and 90 degrees transitions from the in-plane [001] easy axis to the out-of-plane [100] and [010] axes. The applied field and the transverse demagnetizing field compound in driving such transitions and the loss results become strongly dependent on the testing geometry. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V.
