摘要
The aim of this paper is to discuss the most widespread interpretation of Freud, which attributes to him a Strict determinism. The thesis we are going to support is the following: Although Freud admits a general determinism of a methodological kind, which is contrary to arbitrariness and can make the understanding of psychism possible, the strict determinism that he supports is reduced to the unconscious levels of personality, so that he would not deny a certain degree of freedom in human beings. This freedom would be a certain power of the conscious will and the "l" to choose, through reflection, according to its aspirations. His position, accordingly, would be a form of compatibilism.
