Behavioral and personality correlates of cross-cultural sensitivity

Thirty-eight grade 5 & 6 girls and boys were administered behavioral and personality measures which were then correlated with a measure of ethnic tolerance. Security as measured by the Story of Jimmy, a test of the extent to which children are ready to accept the consequences of their decisions, was the most consistent correlate of ethnic tolerance. Behavioral demonstrations of both wanted and expressed inclusion and wanted affection correlated inversely with external Locus of Control and externality correlated positively with insecurity. A sketch of the healthy personality emerges from the data.
