Centrifuge and numerical modelling of suction pile behaviour under various loading conditions

摘要
A test program has been carried out in the geotechnical centrifuge of the University of Delft in order to examine the horizontal and vertical bearing capacity of suction emplaced piles. The test results have been compared with three dimensional FEM calculations and with the American Petroleum Institute recommendations. The influence of several parameters are investigated, such as: height diameter ratio, attachment point and direction of loading. Static as well as cyclic loading conditions have been applied. The test results have led to a better understanding of the pile behaviour. A good comparison was found between tests and calculations. It is believed that numerical calculations combimed with tests in a small centrifuge is a powerful design tool.
