摘要
Resonances decaying to eta pi(0) pi(0) have quantum numbers (J(PC)) 0(-+), 1(++), 2(-+) and 2(++). 2(++) resonances are accessible from S-wave with L = 2, but all others are only accessible via annihilation at rest occurring from P-waves. Crystal Barrel data on <(p)over bar p> --> eta pi(0) pi(0) pi(0) annihilating at rest in liquid hydrogen and gaseous hydrogen targets, the latter possessing a larger P-wave annihilation fraction, has been utilized to reveal confirmatory evidence for a I = 0 J(PC) = 2(-+) resonance in eta pi pi. This resonance has mass 1645 +/- 30 MeV with width 160 +/- 45 MeV, and decays to a(2)(1320)pi with L = 0. It may be interpreted as the <(q)over bar q>(-1) D-2 partner of pi(2)(1670). A partial wave analysis of both gas and liquid target data requires the f(1)(1285), eta(1400) and the eta(2)(1645) --> alpha(2)(1320)pi(0). The branching ratio (Br[X --> a(0))(980)pi(0)]/Br[X --> eta(pi(0) pi(0))(s-wave)]) was estimated for f(1)(1285) and eta(1400) decays. An investigation of the use of the Flatte and Breit-Wigner forms for the a(0)(980) propagator was performed where the Flatte form eliminates a requirement for f(1)(1510) which is present in the Breit-Wigner approach. An attempt has been made to elicit the contributions to the f(1)(1285) peak from combinations of P-3(2), P-3(1) and P-3(0) <(p)over bar p> initial states.
