Guided-acoustic-wave Brillouin scattering (GAWBS) is one of the forward scatterings taking place in an optical fibre. We observed the scattering light due to GAWBS in the backward direction by inducing stimulated Brillouin scattering with high power incident light. The scattering efficiency of GAWBS observed at the input end of a fibre was compared with that at the output. The temperature dependence of backpropagated GAWBS resonance frequencies was investigated with the objective of temperature sensor application.
