摘要
The influence of laser peening (LP) and shot peening (SP) on the electrochemical behavior of AISI type 316L in a saline environment was evaluated. Surface modifications were investigated as they might have beneficial effects on the corrosion behavior. Larger residual stresses, surface roughening and work hardening levels were found after SP as compared with LP. The electrochemical experiments are carried out the same day and in simultaneous for 12 specimens using multipitting device. The electrochemical tests have evidenced anodic shifts of pitting initiation potentials after SP treatment and, after LP a decrease of passivity current. The better pitting resistance observed after SP treatment seems to reflect a modification of inclusion-matrix interfaces due to compressive stresses and work hardening.
