Use of nerve conduits in peripheral nerve repair

摘要
Conventional nerve grafting has been a reliable and effective means of repair to overcome the neural gap, but it is associated with donor site deficit. The search for the optimal nerve conduit, therefore, has continued for decades. This article presents a short historical overview of the use of conduits for peripheral nerve repair including autogenous, biologic, and synthetic models. The author also speculates about possible future developments in peripheral nerve repair and regeneration.
