Common float glass (soda lime silicate glass) is not an inert material. Its chemical durability can be improved. Glass corrosion always starts in relation with glass-surface-contact to an aqueous solution. This process begins immediately after production. In this paper we show how the initial stage of float glass corrosion can be inhibited by depositing silicon oxide layers (SiOx) in the range up to 50 nm thickness using an atmospheric pressure coating method - Combustion Chemical Vapor Deposition (C-CVD).
