The degree of text specialization of the medical discourse in Spanish: a corpus-based analysis using perception theory

This paper analyzes the degree of text specialization in medical discourse. To this end, based on the discursive underpinnings of the Communicative Theory of Terminology and the socio-cognitive theory of perception, an Excel database with data on six variables, both linguistic and extra-linguistic (type of text, lexical variety, rewording, terminological density, role of the interlocutors, and text category), was analyzed using a correlational method with a quantitative-qualitative approach, complemented with machine learning. Among the conclusions, it is worth highlighting the role played by the recipient as a conditioning factor of the degree of text specialization, as well as the terminological density as the main discriminating factor of the degree of text specialization.
