A net zero energy house is one in which the total amount of energy consumed in a year is less than or equal to the total amount of energy generated on-site during that year. The electrical grid provides the energy storage in such a net zero energy house. Photovoltaic (PV) panels are used to generate electrical energy to power the house with the excess electrical energy generated going into the grid. Net zero energy houses also have to be ultra-efficient.
