A catalytic method involving carbenoid insertion onto dihydroimidazoles is reported for the generation of dihydroimidazolium ylides, and their subsequent diastereoselective cycloaddition to form pyrrolo[1,2-a]imidazoles. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
