摘要
Improvement of polyester properties using a novel technology involving enzymatic surface modification of polyester was investigated. The enzyme, polyesterase, is a serine esterase that acts by cleaving the polymer chain through hydrolysis of the ester bonds and releasing soluble fragments of the polymer. Using polyesterase, enzymatic improvement of many undesirable properties of the polyester under mild conditions has been demonstrated. The enzyme treatment resulted in depilling, enhanced hydrophilicity, increased cationic dye binding, removal of polyester size, decreased fiber luster, and improved oily stain release.
